Segunda Quimbamba

2Q Children Dance Classes

Fun, energetic and engaging! The program culminates with a Student Recital with Segunda Quimbamba on June 2 at the Nimbus Arts Center.

Children’s classes begin on April 14 – June 2. This includes the all-preparatory dates for the culminating event. Classes are at the Nimbus Arts Center in Downtown Jersey City. Students can register through April 21. After this date no new students are accepted into the class.

CHILDREN’s Spring Program will focus on Bomba Dance & Bomba Minor Percussion

Dance Day 1: Student and teacher exchange introductions and share. The classes start with a 5-minute warm up. Through listening, observing, and asking questions, we prepare to learn and understand the Bomba rhythms. Students will learn one rhythm – starting with the basic bomba step with a short choreographed routine. Maximum 15 students per class. Students learn to sing in chorus in the call-and-response methods in the Spanish language.

Attend biweekly Zoom meetings with Masters and Instructors for additional practice, discussions of cultural history, the instruments, the rhythms, in the diaspora or whatever is on your mind, community building together in a continuing shared learning space.
